60th Diamond Anniversary Celebration

What's a Disneyland trip without a truckload of selfies? This past weekend Ryan, Evan, Amanda (cousin), and I drove down to California for a short weekend getaway. I read an article that some attractions would be shut down starting in 2016 to make room for Star Wars Land, anddddd it's the 60th Diamond Celebration anniversary. Which was the perfect excuse to make a Disneyland trip before the end of the year :D Also, my Grandma was at the opening day of Disneyland when she was 10 years old, that is so crazy!! I'm totes jealous of her haha

I made sure we hit Tom Sawyer Island because it's one of the attractions that will be closed starting next year, and Ryan's never been on it. Also, when the heck did it become "Pirate Island"?! That is the stupidest thing I've ever heard. Does no one read Tom Sawyer anymore? Or is there too much racism in the book that Disneyland decided to be politically correct and change the name of the island? Too ridiculous. I will always refer to it as Tom Sawyer Island. Can't change my mind! 

It was possibly the perfect day to hit Disneyland. The longest wait time was 40 minutes for Haunted Mansion (which is super weird imo). We did Indiana Jones in 25 minutes, Space Mountain in 20 minutes, Storybook Ride (Ryan's favorite, it's the one by Tea Cups with the open whale mouth), Thunder Mountain, Pirates of the Caribbean, I had my obligatory churro, and we ate at the French Market restaurant where Tiana from Princess and the Frog sang with a band. It was SO MUCH FUN

Disneyland will always have a special place in my heart. I'm so excited to bring my future babies here so they can experience the magic of Disney as well! All in all, it was a great weekend :)

Get a Good Nights Sleep!

For as long as I can remember I have always played basketball, it's practically in my blood. I play for fun now because I'm too short to actually do anything with it haha! Although, now that Ryan and I are getting older we are spending more time behind a desk at school or work, so when we do get the time to play we feel those hardcore aches and pains afterwards. Ouch!

Making gifts for friends and family during the holidays can be affordable, and it's a fun way to give them something handmade with love. I crafted these 2 suuuuper easy DIY Christmas gift projects using the versatile Scotch® Expressions Tapes and Scotch® Create Double Sided Tape I found at Walmart in the 'Paper Crafting' aisle.  

The first craft is the Washi Bow Treat Bag where I use the washi tape to create a bow for an adorable treat bag! The second craft is a Christmas tree in a frame made out of washi tape. Below are the tutorials, enjoy! :)

1// Cut 3 pieces at the above lengths 
Large: 16 inches
Medium: 8 inches
Small: 1 inch

2// Fold the Large and Medium pieces in half, so no sticky is showing.

3// Fold again. Cut a notch in the Large and Medium pieces to make the center (where the fold is), narrower than the ends of the pieces.

4// Cut a "V" shape at the end of the Medium piece. 

5// Open up the Large piece, and dab a hot glue gun dot in the middle. Create the "bow loop" portion by taking each end and attaching it to the adhesive.

6// Open up the Medium piece and hot glue it to the back of the Large piece. 

7// Then hot glue the Small piece around the center to secure the entire bow together. 

8// Glue bow to wooden clothespin. 

9// Fill bag with candy, fold doily over top and secure with clothespin. 

10// Now gift to your neighbor or friend! 

1// Cut plain white scrapbook paper to the size of your frame, this is what you'll use to create your Christmas tree. 

2// Select Scotch® Expressions Tapes for your washi tape Christmas tree. Cut at a diagonal angle and create the bones of your tree! 

3// Pull up bottom piece and attach a tree trunk. 

4// Place pieces of washi tape on scrap paper and use a star hole punch to punch out your tree topper. Repeat method for ornaments, holiday bells, snowflakes, etc. 

5// To attach the star tree-topper use Scotch® Create Double Sided Tape.

6// Put the tree into your frame, and gift to a friend or display it in your home!

Tackle That To-Do List

The only way I can keep my mental health in check these days are to-do lists and a game plan. I'm constantly updating my task management app, jotting down a quick list, and writing down future events on our family kitchen calendar. It's an easy way to keep stress down and productivity through the roof! Here are a few tips on how I conquer my crazy days! 

1. Figure Out Your Routine
Start creating (or updating) your morning routine to something that aids in your goal to be healthier and more productive. A routine helps to clear your mind and get ready to rock the day! 

This is a routine that works for me: 
-Wake up and drink lemon water or tea to help flush out the system
-Brush my teeth with New Colgate Total® Daily Repair™ toothpaste which helps to fight gingivitis, plaque buildup, bad breath, and helps whiten and strengthen teeth. (I grabbed mine from Walmart, which also saves time because I can grocery shop at my local Walmart. Score!)
-If there is time, do a yoga routine on Yoga With Adriene on Youtube
-Make a healthy and filling breakfast, my favorite is oatmeal with fruit on top or avocado toast

2. Always Consult the Calendar 
Every time there is a trip or event, I immediately write it on the calendar that is in our kitchen so Ryan and I will walk past in every day to take a peek at it. It's a good reminder of what is coming up that day or week, and it sticks in my mind the rest of the day. 

3. Write It Down
Maybe it's my old age (haha) but I have to write everything down or else it escapes my memory. As soon as I think of a task I write it down in my notebook, or in a task management app in my phone (I currently use Any.Do but Ryan likes Wunderlist). 

4. Sort by Priority 
I like the Any.DO app because I can move and sort tasks by "Today", "Tomorrow", "Upcoming", and "Someday". I am constantly adding and moving tasks, so I can assess what I can complete in the next couple of days and what can wait for another day or two. Be easy on yourself and be realistic! Only tackle what you can or need to that day, and save the rest for later. 

5. Go Forth and Conquer! (And Cross Off Your List)
Nothing is more satisfying than crossing a task of my to-do list. Enjoy crossing off each task on your list!

Dallas Arboretum & Botanical Gardens

A couple weeks ago my work flew me down to Dallas, Texas to help open up the student housing for our new campus here. I had never been to Dallas so I was SUPER stoked to visit! While we worked our tushes off, we had some time to go touring and one of our stops was the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Gardens. 

They had a seasonal section of the gardens titled "Pumpkin Village" and it was straight up amazing. SO MANY PUMPKINS. SO LITTLE TIME. Everything was created out of pumpkins and it felt so quintessentially "fall". This post is an insane picture overload but there was so much to see at Pumpkin Village and at the various gardens there were throughout. Enjoy :)
