What's in My Work Bag

This shop has been compensated by Collective Bias, Inc. and its advertiser. All opinions are mine alone. #TheBestMe #CollectiveBias

I'm always on-the-go with my job as the Provo Office Manager and Head of Housing at a coding school. I work from the Salt Lake campus, collaborate with students, and organize events. I don't always have the time to stop by home to fix my hair/outfit between work and a night event, or to grab an energy drink to get through the rest of the day. My life is in my bag, and I like to be prepared for anything!

Here's a quick look at what I typically have in my work bag at any given time. It's usually mingled with a bunch of receipts and bags of almonds, but I've taken those out for pictures sake ;)

1. Energems & Treats
That afternoon slump is killer! I've recently picked up Energems from Walmart as an addition to my work bag and love how they are both a chocolate treat and an energy boost. Double whammy! I found them in the sports nutrition section by the pharmacy. It satisfies my sweets craving with one bite and helps me get through the rest of the work day when I'm cranking out design mock-ups.

Energems are the perfect dose of caffeine, so I don't have to down an energy drink to get that pep back in my step. With the combination of caffeine and B vitamins for energy, there is also no jitters when I've taken this. Say what?! It's been awesome! There's no artificial colors, flavors, or preservatives; and it's made with real dark chocolate. The bottle is lightweight enough to throw in my purse and super convenient when I need that boost of energy for a meeting :) You can get $2 off on Energems here if you want to try them out!

2. Accessories, Bobby Pins, Hair Ties, and Makeup
I don't know how it happens, but I always have a pair of earrings in my purse and it changes from week to week. When I'm working a full day in the office and then running a night event at work, it's nice to have options with my hair and accessories! I'll pull my hair back with bobby pins or a hair tie, throw on some earrings, touch up my brows, and toss on some gloss. BAM. Looking fabulous.

3. Tide to-go
I am so clumsy. At least every other day I'm spilling some sort of food or drink on myself. I keep a bleach pen in my purse at all times for the "what if" moment. Also, you get karma points when you offer it to a co-worker or friend who is desperately trying to wipe off a stained piece of clothing.

4. Headphones
Some days I just need to be in-the-zone when working on emails or a project. I always have my Beats or some earbuds in my purse so I can tune out the world and focus. Doesn't hurt that it also makes me look uber stylin' ;)

5. Sunglasses & Car Keys
Bug eye tortoise sunglasses are my JAM. I keep buying the same pair every summer and I don't even care if it's not adventurous. They are the best.

Keys are a given to have in my work bag. I usually have the master set of keys for campus and master set for housing in my bag as well. Too many keyyyysssss.

The "I Love My Missionary" keychain has been on my keys since my brother Evan left on his LDS mission 3 years ago. Our youngest brother Jesse is currently on a mission, so I decided to keep the keychain on :)

6. Lotion
Utah weather is dry and sucks the life and moisture out of my skin. I love trying out new lotions and always have one in my purse for my dry hands and elbows.

7. Pill Box
I recently got this little pink pill box holder and think it's so cute! I throw in allergy and pain pills so I have them on hand whenever I need them.

8. iPhone
Last but definitely not least. My iPhone! I enjoy picking out a new phone case every few months depending on the season, this summer is bright colorful fruits. Too cute!

What's your work bag look like?
What do you do to keep your energy up during the work day?

Let Me Fix My Hurr

I am finally making it a point to figure out how to do different things with my hair other than my lazy ponytail or the always-favorite messy top knot/ballerina bun. Seeing as how I'm an "adult" and need to look semi-presentable most days of the week, I gotta shake some things up. I used Robyn's fishtail tutorial the other day and was so excited with how it turned out! Very boho chic :) Today I used Ashley's french braid turned into a messy bun tutorial that I found on Pinterest {shocker, how did we ever live without Pinterest before?} and my hurr looks AWESOME if I do say so myself. Here are some other hair-do's that I'm looking forward to trying out: piecy pony, different ways to wear your bangs, and a rolled up-do
Happy weekend!

Ch-Ch-Changes

First off, my last shift at Francesca's was this past Saturday.
Not gonna lie, I have very mixed feelings about it.
I was sad to leave because I've enjoyed all the girls I work with there, I love talking with customers, and it has pretty much been my 2nd home for the past year.
It seems almost surreal that I wouldn't be back to organize jewelry, fold clothes, vacuum at closing, or talk to customers this week.
On the other hand though, I'm excited to move on to something new & different.

School is wrapping up and the last day of school is the 18th, it seems so close and yet so far away.
I'm only two more group projects, one essay, one presentation, and two more concert reports away from being completely DONE with Winter semester 2013!

Ryan and I move to Corona, CA for the summer the last week of April.
He will be selling pest control all day every day to make us some sweet moolah.
I'll be working for my dad's dental office, completing 2 online classes, and doing my internship!

I got an internship writing articles for the National Healthy Marriage Institute blog this summer.
It's all online, the hours are flexible, it's blogging {how cool!}, and I get to use everything I've learned with my Family Studies major.
How perfect is that?!
I'm excited to share with you guys the articles I write this summer :)

What I'm most excited for is:
+ being that much closer to graduating with my Family Studies degree & Music minor {Dec 2013!}
+ being close to my friends & family for the summer
+ the flexibility of my internship & job
+ our 2 year anniversary {aka mini vacation}
+ being in a place that is familiar, and being in the sun because it makes me happy!
+ for Ryan to get his braces off at the end of summer {he is so stoked}
+ disneyland & the beach
+ the bruno mars concert that we are planning on goin' to
+ the low-key, fun & productive summer that our 'lil family will have :)

Casual Winter Style

{On my Pinterest "My Closet" board}

Holy moly is it already December!?
If you girls didn't already know, I work at Francesca's Collections, and it's just crazy how much we have still been seeing bright colors come into the store for Fall/Winter.
Even more so than the burgandy, mustards, and jades!

I am getting a fur & suede vest and colorful blanket sweater for Christmas, {at least I know what I'm getting for Christmas is the bomb!} so these two looks definitely inspired me!
You know what I loooove about the Winter and the holidays?

You can wear as much glitter and sequins as you want and
NO ONE CAN SAY ANYTHING ABOUT IT.

trends i don't get

While looking through some online sale stuff a while back,
I came across some trends that thoroughly disturbed me and it made me wonder why the poop some things are popular...and how much longer they will even be considered "trendy".
I took a leaf from "How Not to Dress Like a Mom"'s book while writing this :)

Flatforms
 They look like flotation devices.
Wedges and heels are supposed to make you walk taller, look thinner, and make your butt look higher and tighter.
What do flatforms do?!
The opposite??

Mullet/Hi-lo Skirts
I slight Hi-Lo I feel is acceptable...
but when the highs are half-way up your thigh and the lows are dragging on the ground?
Why?!

The Jcrew Bubble Necklace aka The Blogger Necklace
I saw the bubble necklace a while ago on the Jcrew site and was like:
"Oh, that's pretty cute! The price tag though? Bleh."
Then every blogger ever known to blogspot now owns the bubble necklace.
People come into Francescas asking for the bubble/blogger necklace.
WHAT THE.
There is so much going on with that necklace I feel like it would fall into the grand canyon known as my cleavage and be lost forever.

What is a trend you just don't get?

P.S. You all had some way cool ideas on what type of party I should throw for my 21st b-day! Stay tuned and I'll write up some ideas and dash in some pictures for you on what I'm planning :)

Goin' Home

I've been pretty much in denial that we are heading back to Utah tomorrow.
It has been SO NICE here in So-Cal, why the heck don't I live here?

Oh ya... we got cheap tuition, cheap living, and some awesome possum amigos in Utah.
*Sighhhh*
One day, California or Texas here we come!
I wore this ensemble to my home ward on Sunday for church.
A ward, for all you non-LDS peeps, is when you are divided up by the area you live in, and you go to church with the people who live in your same area.
I'm in the Lake Elsinore Ward, and my "home ward" is made up of the people who live in the city of Lake Elsinore and some people from Corona.

I've lived in this ward from 8 years old on up!
Meaning that many of the same adults and families have been in my ward for years and years, and have seen me grow up, go to college, and get married.
It's always weird coming home, don't get me wrong, it is always feels good to come home.
But I always feel like it was a different life.
I was a different person, with different thoughts, who made different decisions.
So much different from the person I am today, it's amazing how much you can change in 3 years.
I've since moved on.
Creating my own life up in Utah, with school, responsibilities, and my 'lil family.
One of my favorite parts though, is coming to my home ward, and meeting/talking with all the adults I grew up with. They tell me how great of a woman I've grown up to be.
Which makes me so happy, knowing that I'm on the road to be the best person I can be.
Plus the fact that other people can just see how happy I am without me having to say it, speaks volumes! {Cause hellooooo, my husby is hot. And fun. Wassup.}
