Breezy Days: Pin-Up

Pin-Up

I love 50s dresses & style.
Maybe it's because I have an hourglass shape and those are the patterns of clothes that flatter me best.
And maybe just because I love the music and people of the oldies era.

Sometimes I wish I could pull off that "vintage-y/hipster/indie" cool vibe,
but I just can't.

I don't have that body type and never will, and I've come to accept that and love it.
Wayyyy back to my freshmen year of high school, I was on the basketball team.
We were running so much {maybe a little too much}
that I dropped down to 110-115 pounds.

Even at that low of a weight I still had a chest, a booty, a curvy waist, and the lovely genetic pooch.
No matter how much weight I lose I still have my pin-up shape.
Which back in high school was definitely not the popular body type.
Now that I'm in my third year of college
{and after gaining then losing the dreaded "Freshmen 15"}
I've learned that:

A. Size doesn't matter as long as I am and feel healthy.

B. I can be a size 8 & M at Anthro & Loft, but an XXL and size 12 at Forever 21.
 It's all about the way they make their clothes.

C. For as much as guys say {or think} that they want a skinny girl, once they have one, they don't like all the boney-ness that comes with it.
{Nothing to hold, grab, or look at!}

D. I've learned to love the tailor.
As long as something fits nicely to my shape, I don't care that I bought a size 10 and had it taken in.

AND

E. Guys just want a girl to be athletic and feminine.
Be able to lace up those basketball shoes and play with the guys, then slap on a summer dress and show off those curves! Double whammy.
Dress, Necklace: Anthropologie. Shoes: Target. Bangles: Forever 21. Purse: Magic Step. Lipgloss: Bath & Body Works.

Embrace those curves and keep 'em healthy!

P.S. Brown Sugar Muffins recipe tomorrow :)
Ok, that could be countering what I was just talking about, but just eat one!
Or two...or three.... :)

AMEN to loving the tailor!
I'm super short, with a tiny waste, but thick thighs/backside and finding jeans is almost impossible..if it wasn't for the tailor, I'd live in leggings and dresses :)

Jessica

this dress looks absolutely adorable on you! i love it! & I love what you wrote in this post about learning how to embrace your body. It's so true, and I'm finally getting to the point where I am accepting that about myself.

Can I just say you are absolutely gorgeous and have a gorgeous figure, I think the size of clothing doesn't necessarily represent how the person looks, You're right and you look great girl!!

Thanks everyone!!! :)
Alyssa, if you are naturally thin, embrace it! Being comfortable in your body is the key, and especially at your age. Once you start to learn to love your body and take care of it, you will always have a high self-esteem and self-respect :)
